Turin Shroud ... ... an ingenious forgery from the Middle Ages? For a long time, the Turin shroud was believed to be a ‘living proof" of the crucifixion of Jesus and in particular of His supernatural resurrection. In the 1980s a radiocarbon-dating was supposed to bring ultimate scientific clarity about the authenticity of the cloth. The result produced in 1988 is unambiguous: The alleged shroud of Jesus is a forgery from the Middle Ages!
Church Representatives appeared un-surprised
Shroud researchers and Christianity were shocked, but representatives of the church seemed un-surprised, as if they had already anticipated this outcome: „The shroud could still be admired as a medieval work of art“. If however, one looks closely at the C14-test, inconsistencies and cover-ups are found and many questions arise. Inconsistencies during the Carbon-Dating - many Questions arise
But why should Christianity wish that its greatest relic be revealed to be false? The resolution of this apparent contradiction is found in the shroud, in the Bible and the history of the early Christian religion: In fact it uncovers the historical un-tenability of a self-sacrificial death and the belief in the supernatural physical resurrection of Jesus, on which Paul has fastened the entire Christian salvation. Risen or Rivived? As examinable evidence, the cloth discloses information of what actually happened in the grave of Jesus after he was taken from the cross. The event is certainly difficult to believe, but not beyond scientific explanation, even if something else has been taught as dogma and believed for so many centuries. The conclusion from the Shroud research is: Here a great man has definitely survived his own crucifixion and if, as the New Testament writers have recorded, he appeared to his disciples, then he must have been rescued by brave friends.
The consequences are far reaching But only for the dogmatic religion, which was constructed in the first centuries out of the life of Jesus.
This book is for anybody, who wants to get to the bottom of Christian religion and spirituality.

“I am not a reader of books with golden

dusty
fragments, bones, saints, bleeding statues and gold crosses left over

2000 years of power struggles, punishment and promises of heaven. What

No. Sorry.... Dr. Felzmann's book, describes the possible travels of the shroud. He has carefully researched and presents the story of the shroud in a way that even a non scientific minded reader can follow. It seems reasonably proven that the man in the shroud was still alive as he lay in the tomb. Was the man Jesus? Possibly, but what the author points to, as he develops the evidence, point after point, is the real possibility that the historical Jesus was not dead as he was taken from the cross. What are the consequences? Jesus is for the author much more real and believable than a mystical 'offering lamb'. He is teacher and example of another way to those who want to believe in a Creator who is involved in history, without having to cease thinking. In this age of Wikileaks Dr. Felzmann's book reads like a real leak, a step in a direction that will one day possibly bring sense to those who are tired of the mysteries and illogicalities that the 'universal church' calls truth. We need more honest and carefully presented 'Churchleaks' like this book. I'm looking forward to the next one”. “One assumes that Jesus had died on the

the
crucifixion badly injured irritated me a lot at first. But this

sets off an avalanche, which blows away old faith debris and enables a

of new ways of faith… I am glad that now I can, as Christian, belief

nutshell: Our growing knowledge about the beginnings of Christianity
together
with the growing findings through Shroud-research creates a new
situation out
of which the process that has once defined the "Christian faith"
should be reviewed. The book "New Light on Jesus" takes the first
step in that direction: a difficult, complex issue that is illuminated

exciting reading not only for theologians, but also and especially for
